electromyography

What is electromyography?

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic test that assesses peripheral nerve functions to identify the nature and extent of nerve injuries. By examining the electrical activity in muscles at rest and during contraction, EMG helps diagnose conditions like muscular dystrophy and nerve lesions. This test is recommended for suspected muscular, nerve, or muscle-nerve junction diseases and helps pinpoint the origin of neurological disorders or muscle pain. EMG is useful in diagnosing issues such as:
  • Central (brain or spinal column)
  • Peripheral nerve
  • Neuromuscular (nerve conduction disorder)
  • Muscular (pure muscular lesion)

At Rockland Physiatry and Sports Medicine Clinic, we specialize in EMG diagnosis with state-of-the-art equipment and expert care. Our clinic is the premier destination for patients with muscle pain, herniated discs, and other nerve-related problems.
